{"title":"fabric, guidebooks","description":"","products":[{"product_id":"kimono-fabric-sections-for-patchwork-limited","title":"kimono fabric sections for patchwork","description":"\u003cp\u003ekimono fabric is a blessing to the earth and to all people. i know that it is desired to use as textile artists - for we know and appreciate the beauty and fineness of such textiles like no other. it is for that reason that i take the time to offer this kimono fabric to the world from japan. as a textile artist myself, i make sure to take the kimono that are less desirable for wearing so that we can upcycle them into something beautiful that can be treasured for generations to come. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI hope that you guys enjoy the fabric - love it and treasure it as it needs to be. unfortunately this kind of stuff just is not valued due to the kimono surplus and lack of use for them! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ekimono fabric comes in thin, long sheets. the fabric is assembled in straight lines only - meaning that the strips are completely intact after taking the kimono apart. you will receive those strips in their entirety, just as they were in the kimono. the strips can be as long as 1.5 - 2 metres and are around 38cm wide.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e250g of fabric is approximately 4-6 metres of fabric.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e500g of fabric is approximately 6-10 metres of fabric. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ethe length of fabric will depend on the weight of the fabric, cotton weighs significantly more than silk. I have often washed old kimono and had the dye come out and stain all of my things - so be cautious of that as that is very likely to happen with these sections. I do recommend washing before using - especially the boldly coloured silks. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e・you will receive 100% silk, along with mixed content kimono fabric - there is far too much silk \/ poly blend kimono fabric in japan to waste it just because its blended. please love this fabric and enjoy it as it has little value in japan. the majority of the blended fabrics I have found so far have been high content silk blends. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e・ I test my kimono fabric for fibre content via the burn test. the results of which I can only interpret as best I can as I have found no fibre content labels thus far, and I don't expect to find any. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e・a lot of the fabrics i have were stored in an empty house for 8 years prior to me receiving them, they are antique, and were debatably poorly stored. the quality from what I have seen thus far is good and very usable, but is not without some staining and signs of age. the fabric does not appear to be weak in any way. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e・I estimate these textiles all to be between forty - one hundred years old. I cannot imagine any of them being newer than this. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e・i have gotten some newer (and less dusty) textiles and thus the old and new will be mixed together from now on as i find new fabric to rescue and send out to be valued once again. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e・the price of the textiles is based upon how much time it takes me to take apart and iron each kimono and yukata, as it is quite a lengthy process. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eby purchasing this fabric you are accepting the fact that this is an antique product complete (I knit a lot). This was my first attempt at a fully hand stitched article of clothing. What I was not prepared for was the time I got to invest in self examination while I was stitching. The examination of my environment both externally, the priorities of how I value time, and internally…meditation of thoughts, capturing, releasing, how the stitches reflected my emotions so often, with sizing and speed and also how the emotions were able to be worked through during the process of stitching. This guidebook created by this wonderful human being is so much more than just a pattern. It’s an opportunity for exploration that you can take to whatever depth you’d like. Years ago when I was just beginning sewing more dynamic projects I would have loved this just as much as I did today. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWith lots of information, written instructions and lots of pictures it was easy to understand each step and the construction progressed smoothly. I felt well armed and prepared for each part and didn't find myself having to make leaps or assumptions to fill in gaps. I cannot overstate how cool and enjoyable the process of sewing was. I usually don't enjoy the actual sewing part of sewing. I tend to sew as a means to a creative end more than for love of the process. This project was different, I found myself genuinely enjoying each step, The construction process itself was so organic and creatively stimulating that I found myself caught up in the unfolding and I didn't want it to end. it is loved by many as a durable and extremely well handling thread. i will specify the thickness in each bundles image, as i have both (太口) thick, and thin daruma thread. it is 100% cotton, and is 100m in length.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003evintage silk thread: \u003c\/strong\u003ethis is very old, 100% silk thread. some of it is still new in package and some of it is opened and used - most of what i have included in these bundles is new. this thread (in my experience) is very strong and high quality. i use it almost exclusively and i enjoy it much more than cotton thread. the length varies from 20m to 80m.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003esashiko thread: \u003c\/strong\u003ethis quality \/ length is very hard if not impossible to find outside of japan. i have had people tell me they find the little cards of daruma sashiko thread but that is only 40m per card, and the thread is quite a bit thinner. i have all three kinds of sashiko thread from the daruma brand. card sashiko thread (thinner, more durable), and skien sashiko thread in the thin and thick version. the thin thread is 170m and has a dark blue label, the thick thread is 100m and fabric, and then dye it in a bath. the easiest is to take rusty items like nails, or tools and wrap your fabric around them and tie it up tight. all it takes is a day with the rust touching the wet fabric to have either jet black (water only) or bright rust orange (water with a touch of vinegar). of all of the fabrics, silk makes the crispest designs. so crisp in fact that it is shocking, and the result is always beautiful. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ethese here are kimono lining fabrics. they are lightweight, 100% silk fabrics that had been inside of a kimono. they typically come in
